WASTX Plastic FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The plant itself is extremely quiet in operation. Depending on the size of the cutting mill, it can reach a noise level of 95 decibels. However, the cutting mill is not used continuously.
The noise level of the generator is comparable to that of a small car engine.

Our WASTX Plastic plant is modular in design. For this reason, it can be ordered with or without a cutting mill. Please note that the cutting mill is an additional equipment. If you already own a cutting mill and have doubts whether it is suitable for the WASTX Plastic, you can always contact our sales team. In general, this should be able to shred the plastic to a particle size between 8-30 millimeters.

WASTX Plastic’s plant technology is modular, and can therefore be perfectly adapted to site conditions. The standard configuration includes a pretreatment unit consisting of a cutting mill, cyclone, and silo, and also a WASTX P1000. These can be placed together in a 20-foot container. Alternatively, two P1000s could operate together in a 20-foot container. Since there is no longer sufficient space for the pretreatment units in this way, they would have to be accommodated separately.

There is sufficient space for up to five WASTX P1000 modules in a 40-foot container. It is not necessary to operate separate pretreatment units for each plant.

For specific inquiries, contact our sales team at sales@biofabrik.com , or express your concerns via chat.

The synthesis gas produced covers up to 70% of the energy demand of the pyrolysis process. Therefore, an additional energy source, such as diesel, is needed. For more information, please contact our sales team.

You can contact our sales team at any time. They will explain in more detail the different financing options for our technologies. Part of this team are the direct employees of Biofabrik as well as the contact persons of the worldwide distributor network.

The configuration of the plant is done according to the type and amount of material you plan to recycle with the plant. If you are unsure whether the feedstock can be processed in the plant, we offer a feedstock analysis. Further details and the individual delivery offer can be discussed with your sales representative.

The core unit of the WASTX Plastic has an approximate mass of about 1.5 tons. If the container is taken into account, the total weight is 4.5 tons. Depending on the pretreatment and peripheral unit you choose, the final weight can increase to about 8 to 8.5 tons. Our sales team will be happy to assist you with your individual setup configuration!

A catalyst is not required for the operation of our plant. In the future, however, we plan to feed a catalyst into the plant.

The WASTX Plastic prototype was completed in 2019, and the plant reached industrial standard in early 2020. The first version of the series plant was commissioned at the end of 2020.

WASTX Plastic plants are currently operating in the UK, Germany and the Middle East. Approximately 25 plants will be delivered and in operation by the end of 2021. These will already include the improvements we have learned from operating the first series plant.

For an analysis of your feedstock we need either 1kg, 10kg or 250-500kg of material.

There are some conditions that must be met beforehand:

The material must be pre-treated (crushed to 8-30mm).
The material must be a representative sample of your general material.
The customer pays for the disposal of the residual material and oil, the operating costs and the required personnel.

For more information please contact our sales team.

Yes, technical drawings of our equipment are available. For more information please contact our sales team.

Yes, we offer a feedstock test and feedstock analysis to ensure that your material and the resulting oil will meet the quality criteria. If you wish to do so, please direct your request to our sales team, as feedstock testing can take a while.

The oil produced is classified as an end-of-waste product with international tax number 2710 1962 00. For more information please contact our sales team.

Maintenance should be performed every 90 days, during which the plant must be cleaned. In addition, a one-week maintenance of the system should be performed once a year.

Our sales department can give you more detailed guidance according to your purchase request.

Estimating the cost depends on many different factors, such as:

    • the electricity price in your market area
    • the minimum wage in your market area
    • the price of the input material you intend to use;
    • the cost of disposal in your market area.

You can discuss all of these factors with your sales representative when you sign the contract.

The oil produced changes slightly depending on the input material that is fed into the system. Nevertheless, we obtain a high quality oil that meets the requirements of the market and can be used in our generators. If you have any further questions, please contact our sales team.

Yes, there is a flow chart. Your sales representative can provide it to you depending on which model you are interested in.

Our plants operate continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For more information please contact our sales team.

Our safety system works without combustion of the gas, so there is no emergency flare needed. For further questions please contact our sales department.

The maximum water content is 5%. However, we do offer a pretreatment unit to reduce the water content if your feedstock exceeds this level. For further information or an analysis of your individual feedstock, please contact us.

The entry of oxygen into the pyrolysis process is prevented by crushing the input material to a size of less than 2mm and using a screw plug. For more information please contact us.

Yes, the generator of WASTX Plastic is able to cover its energy needs by the output products. For more information please contact our sales team.

The HS code of the WASTX Oil is 84194000 and the HS code of the WASTX Plastic is 84198998. For more information please contact our sales team.

The syngas generator is a modular option that can be placed next to the container or in its own container.

Sales targets will be discussed when Biofabrik and the potential distributor reach the stage of signing a contract to become a distributor. Each individual sales target depends on the specifications of the market area for which you wish to be a distributor and will be discussed at the time of signing the contract.

This depends on the legislation of the respective country. Therefore, local building and environmental authorities must be contacted. For more information, please contact our sales department.

The machine must be connected to a power source (30KW/hour) for 1.5 hours to start up after maintenance.

Yes, both the WASTX Plastic and WASTX Oil plants are built in a sea container, which makes them resistant to any weather conditions. If you have special requirements, please contact our sales team with your questions.

The amount of space required for machinery and waste material storage depends on local regulations and the amount of feedstock you want to process. The minimum space requirement is the size of a 20-foot container plus the storage area for incoming material and finished products. For more information and individual advice, please contact our sales team.

If your feedstock meets the requirements we have defined, you do not need to test the substrate in advance. However, testing the feedstock helps increase the quality and price of the recycled oil produced.

If you want to test your feedstock before buying a system, we offer three different options. For more detailed information, please contact a sales representative, who will be happy to advise you.

The only residue produced during operation of the WASTX Plastic is carbon black. For information about possible applications of the product, please feel free to contact our sales team.

The expected service life of the WASTX Plastic is 15 years.

No, our systems can only be operated with the generators we offer.

The preferred use case is the sale of the recycled oil to petrochemical companies. By using the oil to produce recycled plastics instead of using virgin crude oil, the material cycle can be closed. We are in contact with many companies in the petrochemical industry, and help our customers to sell the pyrolysis oil to them. In the premium partnership, we also take over the purchase of the pyrolysis oil and handle the trade. We also offer a motor developed by us, which generates electricity from the oil produced.

The calorific value of the gas and oil depends on the feedstock you put into the plant and also on the type of engine you use. The following figures are for 1 ton of feedstock. Please note that these figures are not binding and may vary depending on the input material. Our sales team can provide you with more detailed information related to your specific case:

Output oil (85%): 3500 kW calorific value if you use the engine provided by us.

Output gas (12%): 350 kW calorific value, if you use the engine provided by us.

Unfortunately, there are no performance diagrams available for our plants at the moment. However, we are working to provide this in the future. If you need further updates, feel free to contact our sales team.

Despite the high demand, our current production time is only about 4 months plus shipping. However, the estimated time may vary and the latest estimate will be included in your individual quote. You can always contact our sales department for a more detailed delivery schedule depending on their market area.

Only one person is needed to shred the plastic waste. The rest of the process is fully automated. Maintenance should preferably be performed by a mechanical engineer. However, a person with a technical degree or experience in the field will also be sufficient.

We also offer additional training. You can monitor the machine from the preferred device from any place that has an internet connection. For safety reasons and due to machine learning (systems around the world learn from each other), we also monitor the machine from our headquarters in Germany.

This depends on the legislation of each country. In Germany, for example the legislation is considered to be strict. There, permits are required from local building authorities and environmental authorities, as well as a waste management license. However, our team of distributors is happy to provide country-specific support.

If a storage place is not available anyway, we offer one or more containers as storage facilities for the raw material. For pricing options, depending on your individual case, you can always contact our sales team at sales@biofabrik.com.

In addition to these, there must also be a tank in which to collect the oil produced. The tank is currently not available for purchase through the Biofabrik.

The oil is a light hydrocarbon, similar to diesel. However, the exact composition of the WASTX Plastic output always depends on the input material. To ensure the processability of the input material, we will be happy to provide you with an individual feedstock analysis upon request.

The WASTX Plastic is modular in design and thus adapts precisely to the conditions of the site. One module can handle up to 1000 kg of plastic and several modules can be installed with the same peripherals without any problems. The investment therefore varies depending on the exact configuration, starting at 250,000 euros. Of course, various financing options are available. For an individual offer, we are always happy to help you at sales@biofabrik.com or via chat.
