THE WORLD IS DROWNING IN PLASTIC WASTE. AT THE SAME TIME, THE DEMAND FOR ENERGY IS INCREASING IMMEASURABLY.
IT’S TIME TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
plastic and oil
Production of 332 million tons of plastic per year
Most of it later ends up as plastic waste in our seas and landfills. The largest landfill in the world is already as big as Monaco.
8 – 12 million tons of plastic get into the sea every year
This corresponds to more than one LWK charge per minute. More than 100 million tons of plastic waste are now circulating in the world’s largest garbage vortex alone.
MASS EXTINCTION OF FISH AND SEABIRDS.
Every year more than 1 million sea birds die of plastic parts. Also fish, which are consumed later by us humans, take up plastic garbage, which they mistakenly regard as food.
EXPONENTIAL INCREASE IN WORLD POPULATION
In the past 200 years, the world population has grown from 1 billion people to 7 billion. Another 3 billion is to be added by 2050.
ENERGY CONSUMPTION PER CAPITA IS ALSO RISING.
In the last 25 years alone, per capita energy consumption has risen by 10%. Due to the increasing standard of living in developing countries, there is no end in sight to this trend.
Another 4 billion tonnes of oil needed per year by 2035
Over the next 20 years, energy consumption is expected to increase by a further 30 %. This corresponds to an oil equivalent of 4 billion tonnes per year.
